Nobscot Scout Reservation Site Hike and Trail Cooking

Being outside is always exciting and fun even in cold weather.  However, It does require the proper gear and training.

This January 22, Troop 437 will return to the Nobscot Scout Reservation in Sudbury / Framingham for a site hike and to learn trailside cooking.  We will arrive at Nobscot on Saturday, January 22 at 10 AM and arrange for a hike of the site.   Plan to be there as late as 4 PM, although we may finish earlier.  Scouts should be prepared for non-overnight backpack camping with trailside cooking gear.

Meal planning and a winter hiking discussion will be part of the Jan 14th Troop meeting

Pinewood Derby Workshop - Wednesday and Thursday Dec 15+16

Posted on Dec 15 2021 - 5:48pm

For our Registered Cub Scouts

We are excited to see you soon!  Please remember to bring your Pinewood derby kit and your creativity!  Interested in getting a preview of what we will help you with?  Checkout our Pinewood Derby Workshop Handout.

See you at 7:00pm on either Wednesday or Thursday.  The event will be held at American Legion Post 437, 114 Dunstable Rd. in the upstairs function hall.

For Our Troop

This is an all hands on deck event, we need scouts and parents to help.

For our 5th year, we will be hosting the Pinewood Derby Workshop.  The events will take place NEXT WEEK on both WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY evening.

This is a big night for the Troop, and we need help from all of our Scouts and Parents.  We also need to borrow some of your tools

The big ticket items that we need are Bench top drill press and band saws. We also need corded hand drills, a couple shop vacs, some C-clamps.

I created a Signup Genius to track the help and tools that we need.  Please take a minute to sign up for a position to help.  You don't have to be an expert at anything to be helpful.  You can sign up for the General Help spot if you like.

At this point, it looks like we may sell out at 25 cub scouts per night.  There will be a lot of activity going on so we will want your help to ensure that it all goes smoothly.  Also, its a big night for our Scouts, so please encourage them to attend both nights.

Thank you

December trip - Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) Lonesome Lake Hut Deadline This Thurs

Posted on Dec 1 2021 - 6:35pm

We have an exciting weekend hike opportunity coming up this December 4th weekend. We are making a reservation in one of the AMC huts in the White Mountains of NH, which means with just a minimal hiking effort we can appreciate the grandness of the great outdoors while enjoying the comfort of sleeping cots and a full kitchen!

Located in Franconia Notch State Park, Lonesome Lake Hut, known affectionately as “Lonestar” for generations of guests, offers big mountain scenery without the big mountain effort. Experience spectacular views of the Franconia Ridge across a pristine glacial lake.

While we will be packing in (and out) all of our food and necessities, the trail to the Lonestar Hut is just 1.6 miles in over well-traveled terrain. If you just want to enjoy the beauty and serenity of winter in the White Mountains without a lot of effort, this base hike is for you. For anyone who wants to get out and explore the wilderness directly, hiking options abound from the comfort of the lodge.

We do need to get our head-count in soon, so let’s get those hands up for Scouts who want in on this excellent adventure. Not sure if you’re ready, or whether or not hiking in December sounds like a good idea? Talk to some of the older Scouts who did this hike in 2018 and/or 2019 and let them tell you how much fun it was. I’d love to see a dozen eager Scouts from all the patrols joining us this year.

DEADLINE Thursday Nov 18th. Sign up now.
