2024 Summer Camp at Camp Wanocksett

Eagle Project Fund Raiser

Posted on Jun 16 2021 - 5:32pm
Hi Troop 437,

I started fundraising for my Eagle Project on GoFundMe. Please take a look at the link below, and I appreciate any support.

My project is a 10’ x 10’ accessible viewing platform at Grassy Pond in Westford, Massachusetts. Grassy Pond is a beautiful conservation area that has wonderful views and wildlife. The ground between the parking area and pond can be bumpy making it difficult for those with mobility issues to traverse. The platform entry area would be on the same level with the parking lot making it easy for wheelchairs to roll directly onto the platform. The Westford Conservation Commission has wanted an accessible platform for a while so all people could enjoy Grassy Pond.

I am starting the fundraising part of my project. The funds I raise will help me purchase all the wood needed for this project as well as any materials like nails, screws, concrete, and needed elements to be ADA compliant. All extra proceeds will go directly to the Westford Conservation  Commission. I hope to raise $3000 for this project. My plan is to start construction in the late summer early fall 2021.

Thank you in advance for your generosity in donating any amount towards my project. I would also gladly accept any donated items as well so please reach out to me about that if preferred.

Thanks,
Derek Masterson

Troop Camping at Camp Resolute May 22nd and 23rd - Signup deadline May 13th

Posted on May 19 2021 - 8:33pm

Camping, Camping, Camping!

Let's go camping in May to Camp Resolute! Less than a 20 minute drive from Westford.

The campout starts by meeting at the Camp Resolute parking lot at 9:00am on Saturday, May 22, 2021. All Scouts will be dismissed from the parking lot at 10:00am on Sunday, May 23, 2021.

We will be tent camping and each Scout needs to have their own tent. The troop has some tents and sleeping bags that can be borrowed if you don't already have one.

Camp Resolute is a hike-in camp, meaning we'll need to hike our gear about a third of a mile to our campsites. So think carefully and pack light. You can review the Troop gear list at this link: https://www.westfordtroop437.us/node/1521

Make sure you bring a compass as we will be playing some compass games and using it in the woods. We'll also be doing some of the regular Scout Skill activities including fire building, Ax Yard, Hiking, and rank requirements you were not able to do over Zoom! Plus, we'll have a campfire!

Please sign up early so we can get a good headcount and refine our planning.

Scout Health Card - (Still) Required for all participants for all events

Posted on May 12 2021 - 7:10pm

In order to ensure that our in-person events are as safe as possible, all participants - scouts and adults, must bring a completed Scout Health card with them.  A new health card is needed for each event to be dated and signed the day of the event.  The health card can be downloaded by clicking on the image to the left or on the link below.

Bike Sale This Coming Saturday ... All-Hands-On-Deck

Posted on Apr 28 2021 - 7:16pm

The Bike Sale is this coming Saturday.  Thank you to everyone who has collected and dropped off bikes at our house.  I didn't count, but I think we have 25 to 30 bikes ready to go.  More will be coming on Friday night and Saturday morning.

This is the primary fundraiser for the troop, and is an All-Hands-On-Deck event. We need lots of help from both Adults and Scouts to make this successful.   This is a good opportunity for all parents to help support the troop.  It looks like the weather will be nice and we will have a good time on the common.

In demand is trucks or trailers to transport bikes.  We will be collecting a large number on Friday night at the Legion, and I have 25+ at my house  that will need to transport them to the common in the morning.  Also, we will need to transport the leftovers for disposal..  If you have a truck or trailer, it would be helpful.

We have created a SignupGenius identifying general time slots and positions for both SCOUTS and ADULTS.  Please sign up for any position that you're available for.  If you're only available for part of a time period, that's ok, just make a note of it.  If you don't care what you do, as long as its helpful, there is a slot for you too!

See you all then!

Yours in Bikes,
Brett Anderson

Summer Camp is on! ......Latest update

Posted on Apr 21 2021 - 6:00pm

Thank you to everyone who has completed the summer camp survey.  We would like to hear from EVERYONE even if you are not going to camp.   It is important to hear from everyone so we know how many scouts we need to accommodate.

We currently have more scouts interested in attending than we have spaces for.  We are working with Camp Moses to secure additional spaces and get clarity on their planned Covid precautions.  We will be communicating more information as we have it.  We are also trying to have a representative from the camp present at an upcoming Troop meeting to give an overview of the Camp, their program, and Covid precautions.

----

We currently have secured 17 spots for scouts and are waiting to hear from the camp director if they can accommodate a larger number of scouts from 437.

Parents - In order to gauge how many total spots we need please complete this survey by the end of the day on Friday (4/9) to let us know if your scout will be attending.  Please complete this survey even if your scout is not going to camp.

If you do want to attend camp please submit a $75 summer camp deposit (Venmo is best, otherwise turn in a check at the Troop meeting).   The available space will be allocated on a first-come basis based on when deposits are received.  It is our intention to try and accommodate every scout who wants to attend but that is not yet guaranteed.

Camp Moses is diligently working on procedures to ensure all scouts are healthy and safe during their stay.  We expect to receive more details on the precautions that will be taken at camp and we will pass them along when we have them.

Troop 437 wants everyone to be able to experience Summer camp.  If the paying cost of summer camp is a barrier to attending please talk to a Scoutmaster or the Committee Chair about assistance that might be available.
